It took me a while to find the attached photo - my favourite one of Joan - I hope I am not too late.
The photo shows Joan listening to the sounds a tree makes in Kew Gardens. The tree was covered in headphones connected directly into the tree and Joan and I spent a magical half hour listening to what happens inside trees. So that is a metaphor for my friendship with Joan - she helps me hear what is happening deep inside of things.
You are right - Joan has been, and still is, a very special friend to me.
